And the beat goes on.......
"Lay down those masks, forget about lockdowns and social distancing, but whatever you do, hold on tightly to that fear!"
It has been just a few weeks since the easing of restrictions from the pandemic began to spread across the World. COVID-19, while still fairly dominant in the minds of the population, is becoming just that virus that was going to kill us all, but didn’t. But as is always the case, as one terrible enemy drops back into the shadows, a new one raises its head, “Hello!”.
We see this time and time again particularly since the ‘War on Terror’ campaign kicked in following the destruction of the World Trade Centre on 9/11 of 2001. For a time Muslims were the fear propagators of the mind, then came Greta and her band of not so merry goblins to tell us the World was going to implode and kill us all if we didn’t breathe less, technically at this point, WE were the enemy, we, apparently were destroying ourselves - well at least according to millions of middle-class yuppies driving SUV’s to get their kids to school. Then came the far-right movement who were going to tattoo swastikas on every man, woman and child head across the western world and burn immigrants at the stake (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration). Then came virus, the pandemic and all that followed.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, we have one of our oldest foes come back to haunt us. An enemy from old, an enemy that for many first featured in a plethora of 80s movies featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and those pesky or Sean Connery as James Bond fighting those pesky Russians.
Yes, forget your pathogens, we’ve got Russia invading the Ukraine, we’ve got the bear riding, spear holding barbarian that is Putin declaring that he will ‘demilitarise’ the neighbouring country.
The World looks on in horror. Social media speculates into a frenzy of disbelief, shock and, of course, conspiracy theory.
And so, the beat goes on. The nations of the World have their enemy of the day, all is good, all is well.
Just remember this, whatever you think you know about what is going on is inaccurate, vital details will be missing and the truth lies somewhere way beyond your reach.
What we do know however is, the reason for our complete lack of understanding about what is going on is intentional. You are not supposed to know the truth, the full picture, the absolute reality. We are supposed to be confused, uncertain and, wherever possible, fearful.
The Ukraine are the victims of yet another power struggle between two larger powers. Two larger powers doing battle for the Ukraine to bow down to them, and them alone.
But even that may not be quite it, after all, these powers are less dispersed than we are led to believe. Global power is a very real thing at this point in history, and this idea that the West and Russia are two separate forces fighting for World dominance is not, at least not in my opinion, the truth of it.
I see this more as the next act in the play, “grab your refreshments and buckle up, this is going to be wild!”
It's all a game of theatre, but more like a snuff movie, real people die and real people suffer while the directors look on in glee and profit from the pain. The top will flourish while the bottom degrade further into the void.
